Matilda, lyrics by Tim Minchin, script by Dennis Kelly, is a musical adapted from the magical book by Roald Dahl. The musical is about a genius young girl who is sent to a terrible school by her parents and discovers that through her magical powers, she can right the wrongs inflicted on others by terrible people such as Ms. Trunchbull. The director, Cody Edgar, wanted to emphasize the quirky and unsettling world of Matilda through use of negative space and static motion. The "floating" letters represent the events of the story in motion and building up to the climax of the play as one thing happens after another to our young protagonist.
